Case Study: .Net Software Development
The Client
The Client is a diversified provider of technology & pari-mutuel horse racing content for consumers through internet &telephone platforms &is a leading supplier of totalizer systems, terminals &other pari-mutuel wagering services & systems to the industry.
The Challenge
With Client's recent acquisitions, success &subsequent rapid growth, the engineering team was faced with 32 separate projects &a paradigm shift. Client began investigating options for addressing the gap between their current technical capabilities &their technical roadmap. To maintain ROI goals, the client quickly realized they needed less expensive labor in much greater quantities. After much due diligence, Client selected Objectiva as it's outsourcing partner because of our expertise in enterprise class architectures, tools & technologies. Objectiva's innovative team is committed to introducing &enforcing next generation development processes that enable new levels of quality, efficiency, and predictability.
The Solution
As a CMMi Level 5 certified outsourcing provider, Objectiva understands the importance of strong communication with onshore project management, onsite technical directors, technical directors & documentation &decision checkpoints. Objectiva was initially tasked with QA to accelerate product enhancements & bug fixes, and quickly proved our talents exceeded expectations. Client's executive team realized that to increase their ROI it was far more beneficial to transfer development projects to Objectiva-as the investment in the knowledge transfer would remain the same, while the return would be far more significant.
Objectiva soon began working on Client's largest development project to date, based on .NET technologies, is an internet game where registered contestants can enter skill-based contests, for a fee, and compete to win thousands of dollars in cash prizes. The project was extremely complex, not only because of the accelerated time-to-market requirement, but because of the need to integrate two disparate technologies: the contest engine & the client customer management capabilities. This product needed to be robust enough to scale up to hundreds of thousands of users, it also needed to be diverse enough to be leveraged in other sporting venues. This also marks the first geographically co-located project for client-with forty people in seven locations & five separate organizations making significant contributions.
Objectiva 's successful implementation of SCRUM in to Client's development environment, enabled Client through the process of integrating business knowledge with technical expertise from China, as well as the other organizations contributing to the project's success. Although initially receiving resistance from the executive level at Client, another key to the success of this project is that Objectiva placed an experienced US-based technical director onsite at Client's headquarters. The technical director was able to integrate a team approach, &coach the Clients team through the China development experience.
